It’s zero degrees Fahrenheit at 7:30 AM. I can see vapor escaping from every breath I take. To say it’s cold is mild. Five of us are ushering in the Barr Lake Christmas Count by working a juniper-shrub shelter belt where we’ve seen owls every year. Last year we had Barn (2), Short-eared (1) and Long-eared (4)
I started lobbying my friend Bill Kaempfer, the compiler, to hold this count in 2011 not 2010 so I could add some easy owl pickens to my year list. We started walking, the sound of boots crunching in the snow. Here we go………….
