As you could imagine the Hyannis Pelagic trip was cancelled due to the hurricane. Looks like I’ll have to wait to see a White-faced Storm-Petrel and that won’t come this year. Yesterday I went up to Davis’s (See Blog posts Feb 17-21) once again to try for the elusive Pinyon Jay. He lives in the foothills just out of Lyons. I enjoyed a pleasant hour with both Davis and his wife, Nina, on their deck. No jays, but I did add two more critters to my Quest for a Thousand year-list, Prairie Rattlesnake and Deer Mouse. In fact I’ve now seen three year-mammals and a year-snake at Davis’s.
Davis captured the rattlesnake and released it near Rabbit Mountain, which is where I took this photo.
This weekend, unless a rarity shows up somewhere that I can chase, Linda and I will drive to Gunnison to have a go at finding Gunnison Sage-Grouse.
