Began the day with long time friend Peter Gent, who accompanied me in 1998 to the Pribiloffs to film Red-legged Kittiwakes. We called ourselves “Rock Dove Tours” half the price….but half the birds. Anyway we worked Boulder County with the best birds being Tundra Swan, Black Scoter, Merlin and Glaucous Gull. In the afternoon I joined Bill Kaempfer’s group on the Loveland Christmas Bird Count to search for gulls. Found a Surf Scoter that Bill’s group had located earlier in the day. At 4:00 PM we had a 1st basic Great Black-backed Gull and then incredibly an adult Black-headed Gull! 57 species in all. Tomorrow I bird with my brother, Bill. Target species will be Rosy-Finches. Should be a blast
