Smith’s Longspur – rattle and all

Saw and heard a flock of 12 Smith’s Longspurs inside the restricted area of the Sooner Lake Power Plant.  When I mentioned in my last post my hearing problem, it should be known that I’m not totally defenseless. I do have a SongFinder Digital Bird Song Hearing Device manufactured byNature Sound Electronics.  It does a great job of lowering pitch to an audible level and amplifies slightly.

Sooner Lake was pretty cool. 35,000 Mallards, thousands of geese of four different species, at least 20 Bald Eagles were all flying around at one time or another.

I’m now at Scott’s in Midtown, Houston.  Tomorrow we try for the Red-cockaded Woodpecker and Brown-headed Nuthatch.
