Scott and I easily found several Red-cockaded Woodpecker today at W. G. Jones. It is the easiest place in the world to find this endangered species and birders from all over the world seek it here on their way in or out of Houston. We also found Brown-headed Nuthatch, Tufted Titmouse and Pileated Woodpeckers, which prompted Scott to irreverently crack “Great, we just spent the morning searching for tit, cocks and peckers . This was immediately repeated via cell phone to my wife, Linda, who of course laughed in her sophomoric style. She can not help herself from giggling each time I mention Bushtit or Titmouse to one of my birding buddies.
Tomorrow I work the Katy Prairie in the morning and in the evening for American Woodcock. Oh….there’s more fodder for the sophmores!
